It's not just you. Haymarket is designed as a "dumping ground" for all the stuff they can't sell at the big wholesale market in...I think it's Chelsea...so at best, everything's a week old. That includes some of the fish. No thanks.

If you want the artisanal stuff, you pretty much have to go north. Or far enough west. But Vermont and New Hampshire are really where all this action is taking place. Here in the 'burbs, even the weekly farmers' markets are all the same vendors, selling all the same stuff, at decent but unexciting quality. Frankly, unless one is already nearby, they're not worth the extra trip.
